The play “Sandi’s Blessing” uses a unique compositional theatrical language. The actors’ verbal speech is minimized, the content of the story is conveyed through musical instruments, figures, gestures, movements and interludes from the orchestra, thus hinting at the aesthetics of silent films. The basic texts of the play are Estonian folk tales collected by M. J. Eisen, J. Kunder and others. The title of the play is inspired by the ambivalent motif common in many Estonian fairy tales, where an unearthly force intervenes in earthly life in such a way that the characters have the opportunity to make a certain ethical or practical choice. Whether this ultimately turns out to be a blessing for Sandi or a blessing for Sandi - this always remains a mystery, always open for both the character and the viewer.
The play received the Audience Favorite Award at the national festival “Student Theatre Days 2018” held in Viljandi in February.
